who makes the best soprano saxophones.Would the lacqer of the sax affect the way the sax plays because i'm thinking about getting either nickel or black.

Selmer. Kenny G plays a Selmer Mark VI. I like his music though some people don't.
The lacquer does not affect the playing or sound of the sax.

No one manufacturer makes a better saxophone. each one producer has it's own perks. Selmer and Yamaha have similar standards and are both a close match. when you go and get your sax, try out the horn before you purchase. lacquer is just a coating on the metal of the body. in my opinion, a black lacquer with gold coloured keys looks awesome.

Of modern instruments, the sopranos I hear the most herald for are the Yanagisawas. The recent Antigua Winds get an honorable mention for the budget minded
I've heard a number of people comment that the Soprano Mark VIs aren't up to the standards of the altos, tenors, and baritones. YMMV
