It's pretty much universally agreed that Selmer is the best saxophone brand, period.

Yamaha doesn't tend to make as many professional brand saxophones. They do, but aren't as respected as Selmer.

not quite. i have a yamaha 62 and it plays magnificant. it is a professional horn and not even the best yamaha makes. i also played a selmer series 3 and found that the yam is better.period.
oh by the way. have any of u guys ever heard of tower of power? well the famous barri sax player loves his horn. it's a ybs 62(YAMAHA)
So mabey do a little more research before you by a selmer.

i play top of the line Keilwerth bari, outstanding horn. don't assume any selmer is the best, watch out for finicky ones especially mark VI. i am trying to decide which alto to buy, Yanagisawa or Selmer or Keilwerth. My Yanagisawa soprano is amazing, esp response of keys. Any suggestions?

I would go Selmer, because of the experience the company has. They can be expensive, but it is well worth it. Yamaha doesn't make very many good pro saxaphones. To Matt: the series 3 is not the best Selmer. Try the Series 2, which is much better. The selmer Mark VI is of course the best sax ever made.
