I am unable to play any notes in the lower register of the soprano sax. It's not my sax because I had it checked out and the repairman played all the notes perfectly right in front of me! I can play all the high notes, just not the low notes. I tried different reed strengths and I tried positioning the reed all different ways on the mouthpiece. I can play all the notes on my alto sax, but I just wonder why I can't play the low notes on my soprano sax. Is it hard for everyone to get the low notes out on soprano sax, is it a normal thing that just happens? Please help with any advice you can give on this.

I don't play soprano sax myself, I play alto, but what I say may apply to the soprano as well. I find that if you don't have the reed and mouthpiece far enough into your mouth, the sax will not play the lower register. Loosen the muscles around your mouth slightly, then put the mouthpiece further into your mouth.

hi, I also don't play suprano, i play alto and tenor, but try this exercise, i think it will do the trick:
1st, make sure you got the fingerings right.
2nd, play the lowest note you CAN, and then with the same breath (no break bitween notes) try half a step lower.
3rd repeat no. 2 until you get it right.

Thanks to Gnomon and Rea for the helpful advice! I also just spoke with a professional sax player today, and here's what he says: Blow through the mouthpiece and reed only for 30 days in a row, 25 minutes each day, on a Rico Reed strength 1 1/2. He says that this should build up my embouchure to where I can play all the notes, including the low ones! I am so excited to learn this!!!!

It is very normal , because a soprano sax needed more presure 2 play compare with others sax . So , u need more air support 2 play the low notes , try making the space in side ur mouth bigger , n then try 2 play with more air . Good Luck .
