For some while I have been playing the oboe. I want to know if anyone could recommend some music that really shows the gorgeous sound the oboe is capable of. Anyone, please send your ideas of really beautiful oboe music. Much appreciated!
Thanks for your help.

I've always been somewhat partial to Schumann's Three Romances in A for Oboe (Op. 94). There is also a Sonata for Oboe by Saint-Saens (Op. 166).
Poulenc wrote a Sonata for Oboe in three movements and also a Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano also in three movements I believe. Both of those are good.
In addition I've always loved the Serenade for Oboe by Robert Planel. There is a CD of John Mack playing most of the pieces I mentioned above.
Beethoven wrote a Trio for two oboes and bassoon of which I'm sure you're aware if you own the Ferling book.
Then there are numerous oboe concerti written by a variety of composers, just take your pick. Also there are orchestral excerpts you can choose such as:
Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony 2nd mvt.
Adagio e staccato from Handel's Water Music
Don Juan by Richard Strauss
Khovanshchina - Prelude by Mussorgsky
Scheherazade Mvt. II - Rimsky-Kovsakov
Don Quixote Theme - Richard Strauss
Lots of others. Someone else will probably add to what I've offered. good luck
