what is abs resin? i heard it is part wood and part not. how can that be? what is greenline? i know what grendilla is but i want to learn more about this tree, more than it is used to make woodwind instruments.

I think there are some wise people here to answer your questions properly.
However according to my understanding,
abs resin is a synthetic material similar to "plastic". But is much stronger in structure and not easily to break and change in shape than just raw "plastic". Grenadilla is a african black hard wood with dense structure for making woodwind instruments like oboe, clarinet.
Green Line is the material made by mixing grenadilla powder with carbon fibres. It has said to be of the same acoustic qualities as grenadilla but is very stable to change in climate. It is developed by Buffet for making clarinets and oboes- the professional models. You'll never need to "break in " a brand new greenline clarinet or oboe.

That's a good summary. ABS Resin is a type of hard plastic. Greenline is made from ABS Resin mixed with grenadilla sawdust.
