i got this music from band class .
&& in the beginning of the music, it has a2 written on it .
does this mean anything ?
like an octave higher then what it is written ?

It is NOT an octave indicator. I forget whether it means only two of you are to play or whether it means you are playing in unison with the 2nds but it is one of those two.

a2 means playing together. It is often written after a section of music that is marked as a solo, or two players only, or a divided part. The notation a2 then means all players now play the same notes.
FWIW, the notation 8va means play an octave above the written notes. If there is a down arrow nest to the 8va, then play an octave below what is written.

It means what the other person said... But just FYI, 8va. is the symbol for taking things up an octave.
