 bolero anyone?

hey hey hey,

i was wondering if anyone could throw me some ideas. in our local youth orch (tucson youth philharmonic orchestra tpyo.org) we're going to play bolero, which is written for orch plus sopranino sax in F, soprano sax in Bb, and tenor sax in Bb. the problem is that we're going to have only a tenor sax in Bb and alto sax in Eb (that's what all the other pieces use), which causes a slight problem since the alto can't play the sopranino range. i'm guessing this is a slightly uncommon dilemma but if it's not, any thoughts would be great.

there are certain sections where the sopranino plays and then passes the melody onto the soprano or the tenor...for these sections, i was thinking of putting the sopranino part in the Eb clarinet line since the sound difference is minor (compared to other options) and since the range is almost the same (off by whole step).

also, for those who've played bolero without an oboe d'amour, is it better to use an english horn or a regular oboe as a substitute? i was thinking on the lines of eng horn...

gracias,
heesan (oboeomen)
