My daughter is in her 2nd year of Bb clarinet and has a chance to try the oboe. Is this a good time to see if she has talent for both instruments? She is confused about fingering i.e., fingering a C for clarinet instead of for oboe.

There is always a "learning curve" when starting a new instrument. It will take some practice to get comfortable with the new fingerings and associate them with the oboe, rather than trying to transfer the clarinet fingerings.
If your daughter enjoys both instruments, more power to her!

If she's solid on her clarinet, now might be a good time to try an oboe. However, if she really isn't solid on it yet, she should wait.
As far as confusing the fingerings, tell her that the oboe fingerings are almost the same as the clarinet fingerings are in the UPPER register. Then she hopefully won't confuse it anymore, since she'll have something to compare it to.

oboe and the clarinet is a whole different thing and then there is a different fingering for the both of the instruments and then it is different key pitches mean different scale patterens, like the clarinet is in the key of Bflat and the oboe is in the key of C and so that means like if it is a concert Bflat that means the oboe plays on THEIR BFLAT so it is no different than the flute so there is no difference inbetween the two instruments except that the clarinet is a Pitch higher than the flute and oboe. but it is a good experience for her she could be a woodwind major and things like that, it increases the vlaue of her playing and things like that but, I have a great deal of experience you know I play the Clarinet(primary) and then I play the Flute(2nd instrument) and then the Baritone saxophone(3rd instrument) so you know I am working on my fouth instrument the basson and then the oboe would be my last and then I would be a woodwind major. That is what I am talking about when I say woodwind major so that is all I have to say. so good luck to your daughter and give her best wishes from on the muscian to another. That is all again to say and give her best wishes. But another thing I recomend she palys the flute first and get the feel of playing in the key of C. The flute and the oboe goes hand and hand and then when she switches to the oboe it will be an easy transition.
