 michael finally has his oboe

michael finally has his oboe and he is toooo happy. it is actually being rented, for now. it is some student yamaha model. yes i wanted a more advanced model but i just wanted an oboe so badly that i momentarily settled for the one i have. it is shiny and plastic and goes to low b. there are just a few things. i don't know how to line up the middle joints and the second octave e is kinda stuffy and fluctuates in tone. the second octave g flutters when i play it. i don't know if this is me or this instrument because i only started playing like 3 hours ago! i just have a few questions. do i need to put cork grease on the reed? how do i put the instrument together without bending any keys? i would just like to say that the placement of the rh pinky keys and the f sharp thing of the oboe, when switching from flute and clarinet is a pain in the butt!!!!!!!!

Okay -- you typically do NOT need cork grease on the reed, and you should never get it on the wooden part if you do put it on the cork. To put the instrument together correctly, look on the side of it (the side with all the keys) and find one part that slides over the other -- these are called the bridge keys, and they should be lined up. You should put the instrument together by holding in something close to playing position (fingers over the holes), and don't press on the rods.

Hope that helps -- email if you have any other questions.
