I just bought a $125 Rigotti reed making kit. I'm quite sure I have all tools need to make reeds. The kit included an arrow plaque, wire, nylon thread, shaped and profiled cane, leather case, mandrel, and a knife. However, it did not include a book or instructions. I'm not ready to go buy a manual when I'm sure I could find help elsewhere.
My first problem is with shaping the bottom of my cane, whenever I do so the piece of cane I'm using cracks before I get it a nice semi circle shape. Also, I have trouble wrapping the thread nicely.
If anyone has any tips, they would be deeply appreciated. And any links to tutorials that may help me would also be wonderful..

Actually, quite the contrary. I have found many historys of reed making. But the best I've found was a site where you had to pay for membership and then I would get the info..
If you can find a site of use to me from google.. please post it or send it to my e-mail. However, thank you for the tip anyways..

You could just buy a book on it...or go to your local library and copy off pages from a book that tells you how. I did that to get some oboe reed help.

I think your best bet is to find someone who makes their own bassoon reeds, and get them to help you. If your cane is cracking, I would think that it wasn't soaked long enough, or that it was simply a defective piece of cane. Make sure your cane sinks to the bottom of a container of hot tap water before you try to shape it.
