i play clarinet & aside from putting the reed in the case what can you do to make the reed last longer?

Gently squeeze excess water from the reed before putting it into the case. Make sure the reed is dry or almost nearly dry before it goes into the case. This makes them last longer and keeps the quality of the reed high.

Vandoren makes reed cases with some sort of himidifying/moisturfying thing in the middle that keeps your reeds in a 'healthy' state. I don't find that it makes a considerable much of a difference, but I just thought I'd mention it if you didn't already know. : )
