 alto sax tounging....

I've been playing alto sax for 2 1/2 years, and I'm pretty good, for an eighth grader, and i'm always first part, and first chair in everything, but we've recently started playing a piece called "barnum and bailey's favorite" which is the circus theme. i'm having alot of trouble tounging the sixteenth notes fast enough to keep up with the tempo, even though most of the other sax players can play it. I have been told that I am not tounging corectly, but I dont know how you are supposed to tounge correctly, and i've been playing this way for 2.5 years now...

You should start each note by touching the tip of your tongue against the tip of the reed, unless the note is marked as slurred, in which case you only tongue the first note of the slurred phrase.

In order to tongue correctly, your air HAS to be constant. I know the first few years i played sax, i tongued incorrectly, and stopped my air entirely in addition to putting my tongue against the reed. You have touch the tip of your tongue to the reed, but keep your blowing continuous.
