Does anyone know how much E Flat Clarinet is in Reed 3 of The Producers and how difficult it is? I would like to know so that I can rent one or just transpose it to clarinet.
Thanks,

I played the Reed 3 book for this show about 7 years ago. Eb clarinet is used for about 1 1/2 tunes in the first act. I think it's tunes 3 & 4; HOWEVER, it is NOT for the faint of heart. The Eb parts are relatively high and are basically Klezmer clarinet parts -- 16th notes patterns above the staff that extend up to high F and is FAST! Unless you have a substantial and reliable 4th octave (at least to a solid double Bb), I would NOT recommend you transpose it to Bb clarinet. Playing an octave lower would not provide the musical effect that is desired by the composer.
