 European scrapes?

The fascinating thread on american scrape reed adjustments made me realise I wasn't too clear on the differences between the various types of scrape.
I trawled my way through a whole mass of Google searches and now I'm none the wiser.
Can someone please tell me the difference, if any, between a german, a british, and a french scrape? The one reference I found was about as enlightening as a politician's speech! As far as I can see, the scrapes are the same, but the french favour a thinner reed....? True?

Steve
