I've never played an oboe, but I'm preparing to give it a try.
First step was to review this board, and I found lots of helpful information.
I also searched the web for info on reed making and adjustment. I know I won't be making any reeds for a long while, but being able to adjust a reed is important.
I got my first oboe reeds, in the mail, yesterday. I was surprised by how small & cute an oboe reed is, i.e., compared to how big they look on web pages, and compared to my clarinet and sax reeds. The small size must add to the challenge of working on oboe reeds.
Since I don't have an oboe yet, so I'm limited to making the reed crow, and getting a feel for embouchure.
Next step is to get an oboe to go with the reeds.
