Hello all,
I have been asked to play a concerto with a community string orchestra as my husband will be conducting and they would like to feature both of us. I do love the Marcello, and it fits in well with the kind of rep they often do.
I have played it in both C and D minor. I know the strings would likely prefer to play it in D minor (though these are some of the best string players in the state, so they wouldn't struggle either way!) Opinions as to which should be performed, or which you prefer to perform? Might also be dependent on which parts I can get, but if I have a choice it would be good to know.
I personally prefer the sonority of the C minor, but I am not so aware of the history behind the piece, and why it came to be known in two keys, and what is de rigeur.
