Years ago, I wrote a letter to John Williams asking him to consider composing a work for oboe. Concertos by Mr. Williams already existed for flute, clarinet, and bassoon, and I feared the loss of a great opportunity for our instrument. I was just a kid, and not really aware of commissions etc. I doubt he ever read my letter (since I recall sending it to some agent in California). Anyway, I was elated to discover that he conducted the premiere of his Oboe Concerto with the Boston Pops last May. Of course, I realise that I had nothing to do with it, but I'm just glad he got around to writing for the oboe. So, my question is, does anyone know of any recording? Or will we have to wait a bit longer...?
