 Do you shake the clarinet?

I have been shaking the clarinet slightly with my right hand to get vibrato sound effects. Does anyone here do this?

I've never shaked the clarinet, but at times I do a trill in my left hand by shaking my whole left arm. Can go faster that way on some trills. Doesn't work with the right arm. I only use some vibrato in jazz.

I've never seen Classical players do this, but Russel Procope with the Ellington orchestra used to to do it. Why not? Why should it be taboo?

I've tried something like that, which is motion to move the mpc slightly in and out of the embouchure. Our band director mentioned it once as one way to produce vibrato, and it seems to work. I prefer to slightly move my jaw for that purpose, as perhaps it's less obvious, but then again, who would be offended?

Do I? No.

Have I tried it? Sure.

We're all different, so do what works for you. There's no right or wrong way - it's about sound and efficiency/control/consistency. Do what best achieves the results your after.

For me, shaking wasn't compatible with the sound I was after.

Lots of trumpet players use the shake method.

I've only ever shaken just the top joint to dislodge condensation.
