A "who's playing on what" website

I frequently find myself listening to orchestral performances (particularly older recordings) and wondering who is playing clarinet. Similarly, great players are often mentioned and it's hard to find performances with orchestra. Some members of this board have a wealth of knowledge in this area (e.g. I was recently reading a thread about Bernard Walton where many specific recordings were mentioned) but digging out the information can be tricky.

So I'm wondering whether to create a website where, for a given clarinettist, you can view a list of recordings / links to YouTube / Spotify plus links to any other resources about that player, possibly when they played with which orchestra etc.

I realise that this is somewhat similar to the Clarinet Central website but I get the impression that that resource isn't being updated any more. There may even already be a website like this that I've not discovered - let me know!

I could fairly easily and for extremely minimal expense create a no-cookies, non-profit, no-ads site that would work on Desktop and Mobile to do this but my questions for this community are:

- Would this actually be a valuable resource? Is it worth the bother?
- Would people be willing to contribute authoritative information about the clarinet players on recordings? E.g. if everyone provided a few orchestral recordings that feature their favourite players from history, that would get the site started quite nicely.

If this is a "goer" I'd probably make a dedicated email address and collect the information that way because there's likely to be a fair account of back-and-fourth, corrections, additions over time.

All comments / questions / thoughts welcome!

I think this could be an interesting resource, maybe even as a subdomain of this site.

My suggestion for collecting data is a google form so you spare a lot of time when you clean and arrange the data in a google spreadsheet instead of manually extracting them from email texts. Also, if you export the sheet in CSV format, you may be able to upload the list directly to the website's data source (depending on the underlying technology, of course).
