My teacher gave me 2 piece to choose from, for an orchestral and a band audition which are both comprised of the best high school students in the area, my choices are
Weber Clarinet Concerto No.2 Recitative and Polacca
Willson Osborne- Rhapsodie for clarinet
The rhapsodie is more musical but the weber is more technical, I’m currently a freshmen but the auditions are in the fall, so I will be a sophmore then.
I would like some insight on which one would be better suited , as she said it is completely my choice!!

For my limited ears and taste the Weber is the more musical work. The Weber might also be more indicative of performance values that would be expected of a member of an orchestra or band, rather than the much "freer" Osborne which seems to depend heavily of soloist imagination and intervention.

I think they are both wonderful pieces. Because you must display articulation significantly in the Weber and not at all in the Osborne, you should use the Weber.
Good luck!

I love the Osborne, but that's a poor (IMO) audition piece for orchestra. It plods along with a few technical flourishes. The Weber is more driving technically, then the last page all out hell, but fun. I always do some tonguing on the second to last line of the piece to add some fast articulations if possible.
Plus the Weber is Romantic music, you can easily add your own touches of musicality/expressiveness to it. Definitely some nice melodies (page 2-3?) to schmooze up.
