Please excuse my ignorance, but I have a question regarding mouthpiece / barrel fits. I have a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and barrel. About six months ago, I purchased a Bakun barrel and Vandoren M15. About one month (I don't know why, bored, maybe) I decided to try my Yamaha 4C mouthpiece on the Backun barrel and it didn't fit. Way too loose. About two days, I received an Leblanc Opus and the Vandoren mouthpiece is too loose to use with the Opus barrel (though the Vandoren / Bakun setup work fine on the Opus). Here goes: do I have to purchase a particular mouthpiece to fit the Opus barrel (or Yamaha / Bakun setup)? Thx

No, but you may need to have a new, thicker cork put onto the mouthpiece if it's too loose in the barrel you want to use.

A TEMPORARY fix is to wind a thin tape around the cork. The cork has no acoustic value; it only make an airtight seal and prevents wobbling.

Plumbers' Teflon tape works well because it doesn't use adhesive - it sticks to itself and won't gum up the cork. It does tend to slip and bunch up at the bottom of the tenon, so, as Burt says, you don't want to make this a permanent arrangement.

Yeah, I wouldn't use any permanent fix to just do a "trial." Nor would I use anything with adhesive. The teflon tape is ok just to give a little more of a snug fit, but don't put on too much or you'll compress the cork and have to get thicker cork just to fit what it fits already.
Once you have the combo of barrel and mouthpiece you will use mostly all decided, go ahead and re-cork........if needed.

Those of us in the "Senior" citizen clarinet community used to wrap the cork with embroidery thread. Always worked.

Another temporary, cheapie fix would be to secure some parchment paper to the tenon of the barrel with a bit of double-sided tape. This is particularly helpful if you need to switch clarinets but not barrels. The parchment is sufficiently slick enough to not cause problems inserting and removing your mouthpiece, and sturdy enough not to fall apart if you use cork grease. The parchment doesn't bunch either and if you decide to remove it, I'm sure any leftover adhesive can be removed with almond oil.
