 Vandoren M30D Exeriences

Greetings!
I've been loving life with my M30D for a while now, but I have a few questions for anyone else who has experience with this mouthpiece and could possibly help me. It seems that 3.5 reeds have an airy quality to them... In a different way. After a proper break in process, the great reeds end up responding and sounding like clear reeds, but yet up close, there is quite a bit more air than on other mouthpieces. Would it be worth trying V12 3's on the mouthpiece? It seems like most everyone I've read that plays it likes to use 3.5's, but maybe there are some of you who use #3 reeds and play better? Thanks in advance!

The only way you're ever going to find out is to try them. What works for other people is of no real relevance to what works for you. My M30 (not the D model) works well for me with 2.5's.

Perhaps try V21s in a 3.5 as those may be softer than the 3.5 V12s but not quite as soft as a 3.0 V12....In my experience they'll be somewhat similar to V12s but with a warmer more flexible side

Both M30 an M30D have long facings. Vandoren designed their Rue Lepic 56 reeds for mouthpieces with long facings, so you might try the 3.5 an 3 strength of that kind. Good luck.

"The only way you're ever going to find out is to try them."

That is the answer to most of the mouthpiece / reed / ligature questions on this board. You simply have to buy a few boxes and experiment for yourself - try a few different brands and strengths. Then pick one and stick with it.

I use softer reeds for the M30D than for the M30. In fact, reeds that age and become too soft for the M30 can get a 2nd life on the M30D.
