Where have I been that I was not aware of this great clarinetist? I became fascinated with Schubert's Sonata in Amin for Arpeggione recently and discovered Seunghee's recording of it for clarinet. The other selections are great also.

Let me second that! Seungheee Lee studied clarinet at Eastman and at Yale with David Schifrin. She is a first-rate musician, smart, and a terrific clarinetist who plays seemingly without effort. She is remarkably original in her style and sound. I knew I was really witnessing something when I saw her play the Mozart Clarinet Quintet standing up. Well, why not? If you told me you had free tickets to hear a solo performance or chamber music presentation by any clarinetist you might care to name, my first question would be "When's the next time Seunghee Lee is playing?"
She avoids all the traps. Doesn't try to play too loud or too soft, too bright or too dark, too slow or too fast, too expressive or too cold, too perfect or too lax. She plays just right--all the time. If Joe off the street asked me who he should listen to to hear some great classical clarinet, and would he like it, her name is at the top of the list--and he would like it.

Three days ago she said on her Facebook page how much she likes the new Silverstein Cryo4 that we so enjoyed raking over the coals. She's smart enough to enjoy the self-lampooning ads and appreciate the tonal qualites of the ligature.
Seunghee Lee--a great natural clarinetist and musician--may she live long and prosper!
