Hello!
I'm a college music student and am looking for a new clarinet case, just a single Bb for now. Although I am in the process of getting and looking for an A clarinet, I want just a Bb case for now.
I want something very weight-efficient. What I mean is, is that if the case is medium-weight, it should have a lot of cargo options for music, my reed case, supplies, etc. Right now, my reed case and tackle box worth of supplies has to be separate from the case, and the case has the metronome, tuner, swab, neckstrap and cork grease inside.
Personally, I find that the Buffet standard case for the R13 is too heavy for a standard case with not a lot of room on the inside, especially since I like to have my instrument and supplies with me at all times. If anything goes into my locker, it's books and notebooks for another class. The clarinet/music/supplies never gets left in a locker.

If you want a good sized single case, get a Yamaha case (there are several styles but all are compact) and also get a ProTec shoulder bag so you can put the clarinet case in the large compartment and all your other stuff in the smaller compartment.
When you buy an A clarinet, chances are it should come with a double case anyway, but if not then there are plenty of options.

I see the advantage to a good single case with room for "stuff." I use an old Leblanc Concerto case and I can stuff a box of reeds, reed case (Muncy 10 reed wooden case), pill bottle (full of water), swab, four mouthpieces, lyre, oil bottle, screw driver, sandpaper, pencil, and some extra tiny stuff like mouthpiece patches, the extra inserts to my Vandoren Leather Ligature and one or two extra thumb rest cushions.
I saw a picture of the Martin Freres case that appears to be designed similarly. Although I have not seen it in person and cannot vouch for the amount of room it has in it.
As far as weight goes, if you're honest with yourself, the weight is in the clarinet. The buffet case is not heavy in itself. You can find feather weight cases but the ones I've run into don't have good padding, nor do they look like they could withstand even the mildest trauma.

I faced this dilemma of wanting to travel with gear in additional to my clarinet(s), and the tradeoffs of different size cases, strengths, and weight.
Realizing there was nothing I could do about the weight of my gear (stands, music, music stand lights, reeds and reed adjusting equipment, etc.) I decided a very small piece of luggage, on wheels and with a shoulder strap (for mud) and room for gear would contain a tiny pochette case for Bb gigs, and a double sided gun case, just big enough in hold one instrument on each side, would be used when both “A” and Bb clarinets were necessary.
Of course Tyler, your tastes may vary, and all choices have pros and cons. If you want to do it with one case consider the lightweight but strong/rigid stuff the big 3 are selling (Weiner, Muncy, WWBW), that feature outer compartments, or that are case cover (with outer pockets) compatible.

I found an old Leblanc case with plenty of room for accessories and music. Here is a link to a case that is almost the same size: http://www.music123.com/woodwinds/giardinelli-bb-clarinet-carry-all-case. I use this one now and it is awesome!

Get a cheap $20 slim case off of some random website (one that holds the just the clarinet - NO extra pockets or anything)
Get a laptop bag designed for a large laptop (17 inch).
Place case in laptop bag instead of laptop, and have plenty of room leftover for reed cases, music, accessories, etc. Also includes (more than likely) different pockets to organize said accessories, pen/pencil holders, etc.
When you need to bring an A clarinet too, either cram two small cases in there, or simple wear the bag over the shoulder and carry the small case with the A clarinet in it separately.
