I'd like to attempt to play the Goldberg Variations on the clarinet---has it been adapted for wind instruments? Would it be worthwhile to buy the piano sheet music and use that?

Sure, it would be worthwhile. Doesn't everyone steal our music and enjoy playing it?
I've a project to transcribe Sain-Saen's fiddle tune: Introduction and Rondo
Capriccioso for Bb Clarinet. Man, it has some high notes --that are unfamiliar to me.

I have the Bach cello suites that are an absolute joy to play on clarinet---they always get a great response. I'd also like to attempt the Well Tempered Clavier----a real challenge.

Although Bach titled the work "Variations" (Veraenderungen) it is more accurately described as a passacaglia; the common element between the movements is the bass line, not the melody.
I have to say that playing such a piece on a monophonic instrument like the clarinet seems to me .... well, for want of a better word, senseless, even perverse.
If you want to play Bach, play the flute or violin or cello sonatas; these at least will make some musical sense.

One of the ways I worked my way through college was ... playing the Goldberg Variations. We had a trio - flute, clarinet and bass clarinet - two or three voices is enough for almost all of it and the ranges of these instruments worked. We just read off the piano score and us 2 clarinetists got a lot of practice sight-transposing (in bass clef for me on bass clarinet). Goldberg Variation excerpts were perfect for wedding receptions and similar jobs we got back then.
I played the cello suites on bass clarinet too, in that case just reading straight them out of the book (since I don't have perfect pitch it didn't bother me that they were in the wrong key that way).
It's a lot of fun to play Bach on clarinet.

I know some of Bach's two part inventions have been transcribed for clarinet duet quite nicely (cf: Voxman duets, vol. 2, Rubank).
Many Scarlati and similar keyboard works were effectively transcribed for clarinet duets by Gabucci (sp?), if you can find them.

I premiered a version for 2 clarinets, basset horn and bass clarinet back in 2007. I have a live recording of it and I'll see if I can post it.
