Hello,
Happy 2015! I'm posting now as a college student, playing for recreation and self, but in two different groups. My instructor recommended this ligature, but would like me to get another opinion, or a few. Question: How do you like this ligature, what about it is good?
Regards,

I have been curious about the STAR ligature myself. A student of mine has a ligature with this thinly slit strap that seems pretty good.
You'll find the Revelations to have a nice robust sound with really clean articulation characteristics. But if I could be allowed to confuse the issue just a little more. There is a ligature with the EXACTLY same design only it is actually made of real leather and the metal insert has a thin leather coating over it as well. This one is made by Martin Freres in Florida and is pretty amazing (and really inexpensive at $30 US dollars).
I have a couple of Revelations myself but use the Freres all the time now.

Interesting thing about leather. I have a colleague who is very clear how much better sounding her original leather Rovner is (they WERE made of leather years ago).
Since this idea was put in my head I had also obtained the leather ligature of from Mike Lomax which is a nice ligature. However both the Vandoren and Lomax are considerably more money. I think the Freres is a GREAT value considering the material and overall design.

I use the Rico H in silver now- but my fabric ligatures of choice are the Versa X with the cradle covered and the Mark III. Both are wonderful!! But, don't expect the gritty material to hold onto the mouthpiece well.
