Hi
Has anyone compared the strength of Legere Signature that they can cofrim (or not) the comparison chart on Legere's website?
I'm mostly interested in how they compare with Vandoren V12 and specfiically the Signature model, not other Legere models.

Thanks

I can only speak from the perspective of NOT having had success with the Signature cut.
I found the Signature strength to be about 1 to 1 with the Vandoren Lepic and V12. The timbre of the Signature is the most reed like but I had too many issues with the "compromises." I never could get a completely satisfactory staccato "pop" out of them, nor could I really push the Signature to a really high volume without losing sound and pitch control. Going up a quarter strength (for me that was going from 4 to 4 1/4.....the last available strength) was not tenable since that strength became too stiff.
I've never been one to rely on published charts. It boils down to finding the right match of strength and cut for your mouthpiece and how you play it.
The OTHER option I explored was finding a Legere that seemed to get the best sound for me (cut and strength), and match the mouthpiece to that strength and cut Legere. In the end I decided that path was too risky. But even the best results of that path were a series of compromises.
Our resident expert is John Moses who helped develop the Signature. Perhaps you could contact him.

Talking alto sax Studio Cut reeds here - I bought a 2.5 which felt more like a 3+ but was easy enough to scrape (with a fresh scalpel blade) and sand down smooth to the equivalent of a red Java 2.5 with my Lawton 7* mouthpiece.

I bought a pair of 3 1/2 signatures a while ago and found them right in between a 3.5 and 3.5+ V12. That said, I stopped using them because I didn't find them to play as well as a good cane reed in terms of both timbre and response.

Hi clarnibass,
I play the Signatures and the V12's both and find the strengths are the same. I use a couple different Richard Hawkins pieces, 3.75 on one and 4.0 on the other. The signatures work just fine for me.

I like the alto sax reeds and find them fab for alto clarinet. They don't warp and sound great. Similar strength to V12s. The Bb/ A reeds are better than an averagely good cane reed. and more reliable but not as good as a good 'un ;-)
I can't get on with the Legere for Eb sop clarinet.......... they just don't seem responsive enough????

Thanks. It seems that pepole consistently say the chart is (more or less) accurate. I just didn't want to go by the chart if people consistently found it was wrong in a specific way. Anything else about the reeds I will just find out after trying them anyway.

Just want to add that I tried the Legere Signature reeds and they are very similar in strength to the Vandoren V12, for anyone else who might be interested.

I actually vary a but from the norm on this one as I use a 3.25 Legere on my Vandoren B45 which is actually a little stronger than suggested but I find it plays fine. Probably the outlier here though.

Im using a 3.25 Signature at the moment on M 30 which i find slightly soft so I am waiting for a 3.5 which I believe should be spot on for me , I also think that the VD v12 3 slightly harder than the Sig 3.25 , Anyway I enjoy playing the Signature far more than cane, as I get "cleaner" sound and the response is really great.Tone is full but with slightly brighter sound than V12 but its ok for me .

I use 3.75 signature near one year. I think it should similar to V12 3.5+
I don't know why, the Legere #4 strong much more than the 3.75. I can't use them successfully with my m13 lyre.
