Cimarosa: Concerto for 2 Flutes in G Major

Author: gsurosey  Date:   2014-08-09 02:15 I'll be playing this piece in orchestra some time next year, so I was on IMSLP checking out the clarinet parts. The 2nd and 3rd movements were written in tenor clef! I've never seen that before on a clarinet part. Does anyone know if treble clef parts exist? If not, running them through Finale isn't an issue, I'm just curious. Or, since they're in C, they could just be read as if they were in treble clef, read down an octave, and subtract 2 flats/add 2 sharps (I think I said that correctly). Are there other instances where clarinet parts were ever written tenor clef? It looks like this was done purely to keep the low notes usually written with ledger lines on the staff, but there aren't any range issues that would necessitate this. Given the age of the piece (composed in 1793), I'm surprised that there are clarinet parts at all, especially since there aren't any oboe parts.
