Moennig and Chadash(w/rings). The 2 legendary reverse-taper barrels which became the staple aftermarket barrels worldwide.
One difference is that the Chadash has a rather smooth and gradual taper than the Moennig.
Which of the 2 do you prefer?

I have both, it depends on your clarinet (and you) so whatever works best on a specific instrument.
Practice is still far more important than any after market gismos, especially at 16.

I've had a tough time tuning with the Chadash. They make my throat A and Bb unusually high. I tried one matched to a Greg Smith mouthpiece some years ago that got the most incredible sound.......it still rings in my ears, though I didn't buy it.
Moening was always my "go-to."

I also tried the Smith/Chadash combo a number of years ago. The Smith MP was pretty good, but not to my "cup of tea" at the time. However, I thought the Cadash barrel was very good and tightened up the sound, especially in the clarion register. I think I was using an Evette E13 at the time ... I didn't do much intonation checking ...
I called Guy Chadash shortly after that and inquired about the barrels and also if he was going to offer a Greenline version, because I was considering a Greenline R13. He mentioned that he had special super-hard reamers ordered to effectively ream the Greenline material, that was harder and tougher than standard wood. Mr. Chadash was very friendly and helpful ... we had a nice chat.
I played a standard Moennig at the time, but liked the Chadash better, although I didn't purchase one ...
Mr. Chadash is an expert on clarinet acoustics ... he has his own instrument designs in production ...

Norman, I have used a Moennig barrel for 2 years on my E13. Of course, practicing is my highest priority, though I'm curious how people think of the 2 barrels mentioned.

Well, what you actually said was that... why am i writing this?, you can read- "the only difference". This statement reveals that you don't really know very much about barrels which is ok I suppose as you are probably here to FIND OUT more about barrels.

I used to use both at one time or other on my Buffets. You should try the Backuns or several other hand made barrels too, there are several others at least as good and in my opinion, better than the Mornnigs or Chadash. It all depends on what you're looking for in tone, feel and intonation. It varies with different players, mouthpieces and instruments. Try before you buy, they're all different even with the same make and type. No two barrels ever play alike no matter who makes them, period. Same thing with mouthpieces and instruments.

Well I wouldn't dare say that I know much, though I know the concept and advantages of the reverse taper barrels(as I favor this taper) and a number of things in terms of sound as well as playing. But I digress.
Ed, I totally agree with you. It all depends on the setup and player. I'm getting a Backun Ringless Barrel with reverse taper for their Studio Sale.
