I studied with Sidney Forrest at Interlochen in the summer of 1959. He was a fine player and a dedicated teacher. He made several recordings, but he had an energetic tone that did not record well. Think Alan Hacker and Anthony Gigliotti, both of whom sounded wonderful live but less so on records.
He said that a famous reed maker had made him a lifetime supply of reeds, so he hoped he would never have to play a commercial one. Certainly his tone was very beautiful and free when he played at my lessons. For some reason, he was shy about performing and so did not play in any concerts.
