 Stocking up

Hi,
I'm about to hit the road and be away from any cities for the next year or so. I was wondering if you guys could help me compile a list of things I would need to keep my instruments in good condition, like screwdrivers and the like. I appreciate all of your collective experience. This is a list of what I already have, but what should I add to it (imagine doing all your work in a cabin in the woods)

grease

that's it.

The Clarinet Kit by Micro includes pad glue (also sold separately), a few pads, and a small sheet of cork.

A box or two of reeds, especially if you favor a brand or strength that isn't widely available.

Ricardo Morales has a good YouTube video on what he carries with him. Some items apply only to members of the Philadelphia Orchestra who do international touring, such as his passport and airline tickets, but the other items are useful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq9nuIZo_wE.

I made a list of what he carries and put it up on the board at http://test.woodwind.org/oboe/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=385365&t=384890&v=f.

I would avoid the inexpensive "clarinet kits," which mostly contain inferior products. I especially dislike Micro cork grease. Instead, stock up from The Doctor's site http://doctorsprod.com.

That's a lot of stuff in one case! O.o
Funny thing is I actually will have to carry my passport because I'll be crossing borders a few times. That blue paper thing he uses to blot water seems good. I'm tired of overpriced cigarette paper at Chicago gas stations with glue all over them. Where can I find a little screwdriver that comes with different size heads? I saw a little eyeglass driver, but it looks like it would only work on some posts.

I have the following stuff in a case the size of a thick paperback. I did a complete repad and adjustment with these tools. (and yes, the instrument is still alive and well).
Just an idea...

Ben, can you tell us what the materials are used for? Most, I know but some, I'd have to guess.

- Cardstock paper - either shim pads, or put between rings and tonehole chimneys to adjust the ring heights (lower joint ring assy.)
- EVA foam: great for makeshift pads, works even on badly jagged and uneven tonehole seats.
- Kitchen paper: wipe away oil drops, dry/ungunk sticky pads
- Nail files - sand down cork where the sandpaper can't reach.
- Wine cork - register key cork, dampers etc
- Cyber tool - for everything from cutting stuff to ironing pads when heated
- Pipe cleaners, cotton buds: clean hinge tubes or tone holes
- Crotchet hook - dis/engange springs
- Curvy nail scissors - cut EVA foam pads
- Nail clipper - reed clipper (works surprisingly well)
- Nail polish - smooth tone hole beds or eg badly pitted keys, glue corks to saxophone bodies etc.

I should add that this is not meant to be a factory-state overhaul kit. Good enough for a rehearsal weekend, though.
