Hey everyone,
I'm preparing Uhl etude no. 42 for an upcoming exam and have a question concerning one particularly odd trill.
I'm looking at the 2nd bar of the 2nd last line on the first page. The bar with 8th notes, Gb trill with no other note specified. Normally I'd keep it within the key, and trill from Gb to A natural and there is an A natural in the same bar - it just sounds really weird. Gb to Ab sounds like it fits the bar better, but I'm yet to find an in tune trill fingering to do this quickly besides the standard left hand fingerings.
What note would you trill to in this bar and how would you do it!?
Many thanks,
2E

Given the material around the trill, the 'Ab' seems most logical (you also have an 'A' natural in the preceding bar and yet there is a courtesy natural sign on the 'A' following the trill.........'Ab' on the trill implied????).
Both trills I like are flat 'Abs' but know one will hear it that way.
1. Standard F# fingering and just shake the index finger on the 'G#' key (more of a wrist thing).
2. If you finger the F# with the two last side keys (and thumb of course), now you're free to use the 'G#' key for your trill, then slide off the upper side key to the 'Eb' following the trill.

Thanks Paul,
I was experimenting with similar fingerings to the ones you describe.
I think Gb-Ab trill definitely, I'm leaning towards the first option you mentioned, I've been wrist wrigling the normal Ab fingering but can't do it very fast. Only probably get 2 turns in that trill anyway cause of the rest of the passage.
Thanks for your suggestions
