Is it a Boosey and Co or Boosey and Hawkes. I seem to remember them using the the symphony model name.

I live in New Zealand and I have bought the clarinet on ebay. It is coming from the USA by snail mail (takes 6-8 weeks) so, at the moment I have only a very out of focus photo to go on.
According to one source the Symphony brand clarinet was made by
R. Wurlitzer (1856 - 1914) but this clarinet is much more modern than this.
I do not think it is a Boosey & Hawkes but I stand to be corrected.

As a NZer, I think there are better instruments available locally than on Ebay...especially ones about which we know nothing. By the time you coudl spend hundreds on making it playable, you coudl be much better off to buy in NZ....

I believe the modern "Symphony Supreme" is another one of those dreaded Chinese-made atrocities (see the "Laval" thread), but this is one case in which I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Thanks everyone for your concern for my lack of wisdom in buying a clarinet "sight unseen". Perhaps I should explain that I am an experienced clarinetist (some 35 years) and an expert clarinet restorer. This clarinet seemed to be a reasonable buy but as no one has, as yet, any information as to it's maker or country of origin I shall just have to wait until it arrives to see how good it is.

Many thanks to all those who took the trouble to reply to my request. I have now ascertained that the Symphony Supreme clarinet was made in Germany. I have come across another Symphony Supreme all wood clarinet for sale at $US135.00. I am relieved to know that the instrument is not of oriental origin.

Hello everybody, I also recently aquiered an older model clarinet with the only markings on it as "Supreme" Paris France and Selmer Goldentone 3. It has a serial number of 11787. Does anybody have any information as to when this instrument may have been made, what era. And possibly an estimated value, the instrument seems to be in used, but good condition. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

The "Selmer Goldentone" is probably on the mouthpiece, right? If so, it will be ofno use as far as identification of the clarinet. You canpu t just about any mouthpiece with any instrument. That doesn't mean they will work well together,it only means they will fit physically.

Do you know of what wood it is made?
Because if it is Grenadilla I read it is better not to bore oil them, than doing
may crack the clarinet.
How can I avoid this clarinet to get cracked?
I am planning to buy maas to clean the keys.

The clarinet is for my 14 years old son.
The music of this instrument is quiet beautiful.
