Can you use a Bb Barrel on a "A" clarinet?
Or do I need to purchase a Barrel made for an "A" clarinet?

What are you trying to do? Or is this just a hypothetical question?
Depends on if it works for you or not. Bore dimensions can be different for Bb and A instruments, but a number of people report good, bad, and ugly results. Try it. Let us know.

usually, no, most symphonic players only use a common mouthpiece, e.g., we switch just the mouthpiece back and forth. on my setup, using a common barrel is a disaster.
i do know one very good clarinet player however, who switches both the mouthpiece and barrel with good success.
so try it - with a tuner - and make sure everything works ok ; both cold and warmed up, over multiple days with multiple reeds.

The "A" Clarinet that I am using needs to have a shorter barrel. Which I don't own. I have many Bb barrels to at least try!

It all depends on the barrel, your clarinet and mouthpiece. The only way you will know is to try. One of our clarinet players in our BSO uses the same barrel for both all the time. I use Backun barrels on both my Buffet Bb and A clarinets and when I bought my first one I used it on both because I use a 67mm on both and it tuned and sounded good on both. After a while I bought a second barrel for my A clarinet but they are interchangeable. I can't do the same with my newer Selmer Bb because that uses a much shorter barrel. Try it out with a tuner and if it tunes well and you like the response and tone than go for it. ESP

I use the same barrel and mouthpiece for both my Bb & A vintage R13 clarinets because it makes switching clarinets easier. It is a 65mm and allows both clarinets to be played in tune when properly warmed up. There is really no set rule about "what" barrel to use--you just have to try one to discover if it works. I am lucky to have A & Bb Buffet R13 clarinets (early 60's vintage) that play pretty much the same as per tuning and resistance which is probably the main reason why the same barrel work for both.
BTW, Leblanc Opus, Concerto & Sonata clarinet models were designed to use the same barrel on both the Bb & A models.
