Has anyone else been affected by this? *I went to purchase supplies (just did so about 2 mos ago) and there is NO PlayNow card useage any longer..so i called Wells Fargo, (as they had sent me a NEW card just last week with different number) and they told me this:

I have credit line of $1600.00 BUT it is ONLY useable at WWBW, who no longer will accept this card....

so i sez: WHY send me an UNuseable card? and they said:

OH the card is useable, but only at WWBW, and they wont accept it, and neither will any other stores....

(HUH????) again, i say: HUH?????

wwbw has a NEW card thru HSBC called: "ProPlayer" and you have to REapply for it..you will not automatically receive it...

Don't know of this particular situation but Wells Fargo is hurting for cash and is raising rates by 3% on ALL their exisitng accounts. I surmise this WWBW situation is another effected program.

If this IS the case, HSBC is a different financial institution and would have to determine new customers' credit worthiness under their own particular criteria.

Paul,
of course what you said makes sense

I think Betty is wondering why Wells Fargo would send someone a new credit card that cannot be used anywhere ... just a waste of their own money to print, and mail a useless card. WF should just say that offer has been stopped.

This sounds like something straight out of "Catch 22".

Store-specific credit cards are a recipe to get you into a credit crunch. If you have enough of them, banks may not lend you money when you need it, saying "you already have enough of credit, compared to your income". This happened to me some years ago. To fix it, I cancelled a number of accounts, and made sure that my credit record indicated the accounts were closed. Then I was able to get the loan, at a different bank.
