Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind
Author: Carmen

Hello!

Does anyone have any fingering suggestions for a double high F and Gflat (one octave about the ones above the stave) on Bass Clarinet, such as those found in the First movement of Golijov's Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the blind. I have found a few, but the variation in embouchure/oral cavity/pressure is so different between each! If anyone here has played the piece and has had success please let me know.

I don't play Bass, but for Bb clarinet, I use
R T xoxFlxxxD#
for double high F and
R T xoxEloxoD#
For F#.
I don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a shot.

Hey Carmen,

I've performed it a couple times and love the piece! Are you performing it soon?

For the double Gb, try an overblown top line F. For the F natural, try an overblown throat Bb. Those have worked well for me...

Here are a couple clips from the last time I played it if you want to check it out:

How did your recital go? Please tell Yehuda hi for me!

these are some simple fingerings. A few books have some very extensive ones. I don't know what the Volta book has as far as altissimo fingerings because I have never seen it. but the Henri Bok book lists numberous amounts of different ones for every note. The best idea is to probably sit in a practice room and try all the different combination and voicing and find what works for you. Others may say this is a bad idea. I like the Bok book because it offers suggestions but it really does say to experiment as there as sooo many different ones you can use on bass clarinet.

wow...just had a listen to your clips on myspace....nice!

Your ISP says Houson...perhaps I will get a chance to say hi in Austin.

Ben,

Recital went well. Thanks for these fingerings....they work great. I think I am going to use the overblown F and just gliss down to the next note!

talk to you soon
