I played clarinet in school MANY years ago, and would like to take it up again for occassional playing in a congregation band. I'd like to buy a used student clarinet. Which do you think is best for me, the Yamaha YCL-250, the Buffet Crampon B-12 or the Vito Resi-Tone 7212?

YCL-250 is solid and I like it more than B12 as well the Vito. I really liked how it is built and I feel that it's an instrument that will make the player grow more, comparing to the more laid back feelings of B12 I got.

For build quality it's the Yamaha that wins out of all three.
For robust keywork (and no nylon pins in the LH levers) the choice is between the Yamaha and the Vito.
Though do try them all out and see which one you're most comfortable with, and which one you feel has the best sound.

Yamaha 250. I have one. It's my backup clarinet and it's great.
Vito's are OK, too.
I played a B12 and didnt like its sound, its keywork or its plastic tenon rings.
As Ben said, clarinuts.com is a reliable source. There are some music dealers on the auction site that are reliable as well, and they often have 250's or the earlier model, the YCL 20.

I have been playing clarinet for about 3 years and I play a mid 60"s R13...I am happy with the sound but I want to experiment with some barrels...I use a Vandorin B45 mounth piece (the more open one with that harp looking symbol) I am also trying the 5JB which seems harder to play...I though about trying a barrel to get a little more open sound. I want to play standards...Can anyone recommend a barrel? Thanks

You may want to start a new thread as this is not to topic on this thread and people who may want to help may not notice your post.
Having said that, I believe the changes to tone a barrel makes are much more subtle than those from a change in mouthpiece. Looking at other mouthpieces, or asking advice about that, may get you closer to what you want, more quickly.

Tom Ridenour has a few YouTube videos he just released on selecting barrels. Go to YouTube anss search for Billyboy647. That's his user name over there. They are some of his most recent videos.
