I have one of these in A but made from ebonite! Does anyone know about their ebonised models and perhaps where I can find a list of serial numbers to date it?

 Andy,

Good for you! I've been looking for a CM A clarinet for a long time and have not found one. I have two CM Bb clarinets (their serial numbers are included in Chris' link) and they are exceptional instruments -- especially, the 1970 model.

Roger

I'm looking right at this 129xx one and the logo is stamped on very lightly.

The 'Monopole' part of the logo is similar to the one pictured on Steve's site, and is stamped on the barrel and top joint, but under the logo on the top joint is also stamped:

COUESNON
 & CIE
À PARIS

The 'COUESNON' and 'À PARIS' written as if within an ellipse enclosing the '& CIE' part in the middle.

That's stamped on the top joint and bell, though the bell has

MONOPOLE
CONSERVATOIRES

below that.

It has a roller RH Ab/Eb key, the anchored pillars on the lower joint have rectangular tabs with the free end slightly rounded, the thumbrest is of the old fashioned type with a screw above and below the plate, the RH F#/C# and LH C#/G# key have flat springs mounted underneath them, the LH F#/C# and E/B levers are mounted on seperate pillars and the throat G# and A keys have a shared pillar.

Several have mentioned a site by Steve - what is the address? Were all CM clarinets made from ebonite or is this peculiar to mine? The serial number on mine is not listed on the link so I guess it is even an earlier model, though the build is identical to that mentioned by Chris.

 Andy,

Steve Sklar's site is the one in the link.
