My broker/dealer/tax-preparer gave me a clarinet to look at, thatis part of an estate he is handling. The logo says "Fontaine Paris" and the reverse on three of the parts says "Made in Italy".

"A Fontaine" clarinets were made by Couesnon, and some sold out of the Montgomery Ward catalog, at least as late as 1964. This is not one of these - besides not having the "A" in the name, the logo graphics and keywork are different. I think that this is quite a bit older.

The serial number is 165; all the other ones online seem to have 4 digit serial numbers.

Besides smelling musty and a couple of regulation issues, it actually plays well, with a rather bright sound.

Ideas? Comments?

The folks in my tax guy's office thanked me for the "concert".

Ralph,

I hope you played "Pennies from Heaven" "10 Cents a Dance" or "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" for your recital.

Hank

what I can see, the fotos are very small, it´s an real early instrument, not only by the serialnumber.
The c# and a# keys, left and right pinky keys, has the old flat spring construcction.
In the first moment I thougt the instrument look´s like an early D.Noblet instrument, but I cannot see details well.
