Hello, I am wondering about the origins of a clarinet, bought on a whim for cheap, that has no identifying markings other than a serial number (S100 N10734), and "Made in France," written in tiny letters on the top joint (positioned above and in line with the register key). It is made out of wood, the ends of the tenons are metal. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

 Hi

Putting S100 clarinet into google got me this here

The serial number is also very close to yours on the above page

If that is the same clarinet, then it suggests it is a LaMarque

A quick search for LaMarque on the forum does not give much other than this thread here or this here

They would seem to put it as a stencil of Martin Brothers in France between 1940s and 1970s

Thanks - I see that there are a few La Marque's on ebay, but none seem to have serial numbers as close to mine (none have the S100 in front of the numbers, for instance). And, of course, all of them have the LaMarque emblem in the usual places. I'll have to do some more research, I guess; no one seems to know much about these clarinets.

Thanks for the leads.

I have a clarinet. I've had it since 1967. My mother bought it for me to play in the band. On the barrell and the bell in gold was inscribed

Paris
LaMarque
France

Paris, written as a top circle, France as the bottom circle and La Marque was inbetween.

On the back are the HR95137. That is on both lower and upper joint.
I am in no way trying to sell it. It still plays well. Pads are good. Keep cork grease. It was $123.00 then. Any Idea what it would be now?
