Hello all,
I have lurked and read this board for years and now feel compelled to join the fray, so to speak (though I must admit I'm not much of a limerick writer, yet). I earned a masters degree studying with Russ Dagon at Northwestern and now teach at a few small colleges and freelance in the northeast Ohio area. It's been a pleasure to read the spirited banter on these boards and I look forward to chiming in from time to time. I also wanted to use this opportunity to promote a master class that Daniel Gilbert is presenting at Kent State University (at the Kent campus) this Sunday, October 28th. As many of us know, Dan left his position with the Cleveland Orchestra this season and has accepted the clarinet professor position long held by Fred Ormand. The itinerary is as follows:
11:30-12:30 Buffet representative on hand with instruments to try.
12:30-? Dan performs the Poulenc Sonata and works with four students on the Brahms E-flat Sonata, Rose 32 #18, the Gaubert Fantaisie, and the Stravinsky Three Pieces. The clarinet ensemble from Kent will also play an arrangement of a Debussy Sarabande.
This master class was a quick arrangement as Dan is incredibly busy between Ann Arbor, Stony Brook, and Case Western so it hasn't gotten a lot of promotion. Everything is free and all events are being held in the Ludwing Recital Hall in the Music and Speech Center. Dan is a terrific teacher, as is Dennis Nygren the professor of clarinet at Kent, so it would be a great opportunity to meet them both and enjoy some clarinet playing. In any case, I look forward to posting on the board from time to time and continuing to read the excellent and wide-ranging discussion.
