Sorry I keep posting so many topics...I have many questions!

Does anyone know of the quality of rosewood vs. grenadilla? I saw a rosewood clarinet on a website and I was instantly intrigued.

I tested the Patricolas a while back and found them to be very nice horns overall. The only drawback that I attibuted to the wood seemed to be a much "lighter" sound. In other words a nice horn for small chamber work but perhaps too lightweight (sound wise) for meatier material.

I own a Leblanc Symphonie VII that is a wonderful instrument. However, some rosewood clarinets that are not very expensive and not the big 4 or 5 (Yamaha, Buffet, Selmer and Leblanc and Patricola) I would hesitate to purchase.

They do get a brighter, or lighter sound. I've fixed that with Morrie Backun's tuning barrels and bells. I bought Grenadilla bell and barrel and that did a great deal to help me get a bigger sound. Volume was a bit of a problem for me.

But, the Leblanc Symphonie VII is drop dead gorgeous. As far as quality goes, grenadilla is the standard for most wooden clarinets. The Leblanc clarinet is very high quality rosewood.

Many arguments have been made on this board about rosewood vs. grenadilla, so you might do a search. There are as many opinions as there are postings.

I love mine and am so pleased to have it back in my arsenal of instruments after selling it and getting it back a few months ago. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

I have a Rossi and several Patricolas. The Rossi is "sweeter" in tone and doesn't project as well as my Selmer.
