 Meyer M4 lapped facing mp.
Author: Dano

Having a Meyer mp for alto sax and loving it, I saw a Meyer M4-lapped facing for clarinet on ebay and ended up with one of the sweetest sounding mp's that I have ever layed my lips onto. The price wasn't bad either (9.99). I just don't know what the "lapped facing" is. Can anyone shed some light on what lapped facing means? Whatever it is, it works for me. This mp is right on in everyway.

"Lapped" means "polished using a very fine abrasive compound". Whoop-te-do.

Whoop-te-do is right. I think lapped has nothing to do with how well this mp plays. Sounds like marketing once again sticks it's foot out while I'm trying to run. Thanks David.

Eric Brand in his instrument repair book talks about lapping the table, and perhaps this language is a hold-over from the older era, but in my experience polishing the table has little to do with the playability of a mouthpiece. On the other hand the nature of the table (flat, concave or convex) has a great deal of influence over the playing experience.

Congratulations on your fine acquisition!

His old Meyer mouthpiece went racing
against one with a real close facing.
At Turn 3 got trapped
and soon after was lapped
by a Vandy with ligature lacing........

He put the mouthpiece face on his lap, waited patiently and sold it as a Myer lapped facing. The guy that bought it was confused.......but lapped it up and walked away happy.

Did it have a sticker on the box that said $85 (by any chance) :)

A Meyer mouthpiece on the sax?
It's used by many, those are the facts.
But on the Buffet clarinet,
Or even on the Evette,
The resulting sound? It just quacks.

I have played it for a few
and all agree
it does sound sweeter
than my 5JB
