Well forgot my ligature last night, and the stage crew had a roll of duct tape. So, bingo duct tape ligature
Found out(through trial, and error) that if you place the reed with a small piece first, and then go around several times with the roll it works pretty well. I mean: So what if it leaves a sticky mess afterwords; had to use walnut oil at home to get the residue off.
To be absolutly honest I could not tell the difference between duct tape, and my rovners.
Maybe there's a marketing thing here?

There is a company that makes a line of products (bags, wallets, etc) all out of duct tape.
Many they could make a duct tape lig. =)
It's not a bad idea, actually; with all the fibers and thick plastic, duct tape has a lot in common with Rovner fabric.

Or maybe carry an extra pair of shoe-laces in your pocket (color opitional-make a fashion statement).

I got shoe laces with treble clefs on from Father Christmas. I wonder if they have better acoustic qualities.....

At the end of a local concert once, I noticed that as the musicians walked offstage, a clarinet player's shoe fell off. It was also obvious, though I couldn't hear exactly what was being said, that some other wind players were teasing the guy--and one of them pointed at his mouthpiece, as the clarinet player retrieved his shoe and joined (rather sheepishly) in the laughter. I was too far away to tell for sure, but it looked to me as if he'd used a shoelace ligature....

shoe laces work fine - almost identical to the german style string ligatures.

My right shoe's shoe-lace saved me once during Mahler 2nd when my Bonade Eb-ligature suddenly broke on me. It was much safer than the lig ever was.

A number of the saxophonists at Simpson use medical tape to cushion their bottom lips, and one rehearsal decided to use this tape as a ligature. Worked quite well, and didn't have any leftover residue.

I've seen the duct tape wallets. My husband wanted one for Christmas. I couldn't bring myself to do it.
As to the residue, I'm sure it would be ok to use duct tape in an emergency--even shoe laces. But, I don't think I would like having to clean the residue off the mouthpiece all the time. Way too much work.
