Selmer 10G

Hi

I've seen a 10G in a shop SN A3XXX just outside the good ones described in the topic 'Selmer 10G - Which Are the Good Ones' but perhaps similarly blessed. There is a star in the wood just above the SN, does this signify anything?

Hi Woody,

As I recall, the * just above the S# indicates a factory replacement section (probably with the original numbers used).

There has been some discussion here about that but I can not remember the search keywords. We even had an example of a seller on a famous auction site trying to tell potential buyers that the * indicated a very select example of Selmer clarinet which was of exceptional quality.

The opinions of BB members to this claim seemed to be "Rubbish!" I sent the seller an informational email and he tried to do the "smoke and mirrors" with me but found no success.

Thanks for the info. Did a search and found the relevant threads.

Nothing a seller puts on a certain web auction site would surprise me now, no such claim was being made by the shop though.

It is worth noting, that you could play this instrument in advance of purchase.
That alone is worth something in real Pounds/Euros/Greenbacks.

The replacement section may have been selected for a best tonal match?

The 10G was pretty consistent, and a good analog to a well-tuned R13.

Me, I would rather have a Boosey Imperial - built for the ages!
