Recently a link was posted to the narration in this piece, written (I believe) and definitely narrated by Garrison Keilor. Does anyone know who wrote/arranged the music for this?

To quote the author (that's ok isn't it?)

"Many Lutherans start out playing clarinets in marching band and think of the clarinet as a Christian instrument, clear and strong and almost human.

But a symphonic clarinet is different from the band clarinet: it's sardonic, skeptical, and definitely worldly."

I don't know about the above, except to say that I have known many clarinetists who were skeptics, many others who were cynics, and quite a few who were almost human.

BTB - you're post made me laugh. I know this piece quite well, as I've heard it twice quite recently. It always makes me smile (though never laugh out loud).

If you like this work, then there is a British one called "Who pays the Piper?" that is absolutely brilliant (sadly out of print), anyone heard this??

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Thanks for re-posting the link I too had discovered that it had vanished--into cyberspace perchance?

It says "by Garrison Keilor". Does anyone know, did he actually write the narration? The Randall Davidson website stated that Garrison had commisioned it but I don't remember it stating that he actually wrote it.

For those who listen to CBC-some years ago there was an on air telephone conversation between Garrison Keilor and Jeurgen Goethe. VERY entertaining. I think Jeurgen would do almost as good a job as Garrison himself.
