Last night I played with my woodwind quinet at an event at the University of Calgary for Ralph Klein (The Premiere of Alberta). I was not too keen on the event originally because I was not getting paid but we were each provided with a ticket to the event after we played at the reception (tickets were 130 dollars a seat I believe).
So as it turns out we are sitting at a table with several federal Members of Parliament and we had great conversations with them all evening about everything ranging from classical music in society to the decay of culture in society to politics! We talked for like three hours with them... they were fascinated with us because we are students that they don't often have a chance to communicate with (usually they deal with students from management and such). It was very interesting though, with all these important business people, and the premiere of the province... that they chose to converse with young musicians all evening!
We all talked for so long that our table was the last to leave, and the event staff had to come ask us to leave! It was a cool experience!
