Has anyone tried both of these moutpieces. I am going to get one of the two and want to know which one to try first. I play on a Vito 7166 Bass with GCS 3.5 reeds, and a BG Super Revelation lig. Thanks

I have 2 CXBB's (not on your shopping list), but I strongly recommend that you phone or email Walter Grabner who makes them. He will give you sound advice to help with your choice. Don't discard any of Walters m/p's from your wish list. My 'pieces are stunning. Look at his website which at this time, is not opening from the "Mouthieces and barrels" button to the right (on my computer anyway).
Google ....."Clarinetxpress" (watch spelling) for his informative website.
He might even let you trial a couple of 'pieces.

I tried both of them a couple of years ago in Walters basement and, although both played well, I liked the CXBS better simply because I could put out more sound with it. Although the CXBZ was Walters personal favorite, he agreed that the other one played best for me. Specifically, the CXBZ offered more resistance and a "darker" sound. The CXBS (my choice) had a slightly brighter quality but reponded well in all registers--particularily those upper "problem" notes--and I could play louder with it.
Which one is best for you--only you can make that call. FWIW--I play a Buffet Prestige low C model bass clarinet and Walters mpcs all play very well on it. Hope this helps a bit.

if you have not done so, by all means start a diaolog with Walter. email, phone, snailmail or what ever. I find him very approachable and helpful. I don't play bass so I can be of no further help.

As of last Thursday Walter had a CX_BZ in his basement that had a lot of potential to it though it wasn't finished yet. I tried it out while I was getting my bass repaired, selecting a new soprano, and selecting a second bass mouthpiece. I was tempted to wait until he finished that mouthpiece, but I came across another gem that I really liked, again a BZ. I found the BS had a little too much roughness to the sound, but both were really nice.
