Hello all, I am interested in subscribing to the Clarinet and Saxophone quarterly magazine by the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Britain. Any comments on the value of this publication?

What about the magazine from the Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Society? Are these 2 publications related?

Are there any other clarinet magazines/journals available for subscription?

Occassionally I pick up the Saxophone Journal from the local stores, the only wind instrument publication available amongst the handful of electric guitar ones.

I'm a CASS member and we get the magazine on a quarterly basis. It's a great magazine pitched at a mix of technical, informational and artistic content. The editorials are really well written....some comical...some serious. My day is brightened when it pops through my letterbox and usually within that same day it has been read cover to cover, notes of future concerts taken, cd and music reviews digested, historical anecdotes absorbed.

Make no mistake this is not necessarily a light weight mag., however, it has a really successful blend which gives "something for everyone" a really true ring.

My pet hate in a specialist magazine (or indeed any medium) is to find a wadge of spelling errors.....yes, sorry, I'm a paid up member of the Society for the Preservation of the Apostrophe....I think it does matter.....but no such problem with the CASS mag !

> Society for the Preservation of the Apostrophe

As in "the clarinetists' instruments"? (I had a discussion recently where I was the only one defending it)

In my opinion, the apostrophe is being altogether too well preserved, to the extent of being used where it shouldn't:

"I'm working on one of the Weber concerto's this year."

"The run's in it's last movement are real challenging".

Yeah, what about:

“How many RSVP’s did you receive?”

“Give me nine Big Mac’s!”

ARRGH! My eyes! My eyes!

If I hate one thing, I mean really really hate, then it is plural apostrophs. In English as much as in German. There just is no such thing as a plural apostroph...
