Dear clarinetmom,
I studied with Ayako at Purchase for my masters degree. I found her to be a wonderful teacher. I didn't know anyone there who didn't like her or her teaching style. However, as with all teachers some matches are better than others. If possible your son or daughter should try to get a lesson with her. I assume that he or she is planning on auditioning there for their undergrad.

Is she Charlie Neidich's wife?
I studied with her father-in-law (Irving).

I studied with her for one year. She is extremely nice and encouraging and has a lot of great things to say about playing the clarinet. She is also a GREAT cook! Every year she and her husband, Charlie Neidich, have their students over to their house for a party. Ayako chooses a different ethnic food every year and makes a feast of food from that particular region of the world. That party is one of my best memories from my freshman year of college.

My friend studies with her (as well as Neidich). He's 18, and is good enough to be performing as soloist in the Nielson with orchestra in the spring, so that must be at least somewhat representative of Ayako.
